A valve body that passes dimensional inspection but fails in service — that’s a material and surface finish problem, not a geometry problem. Energy equipment operates under sustained pressure, thermal cycling, and corrosive media. The difference between a seal face at Ra 0.8 µm and Ra 1.6 µm determines whether a hydraulic manifold holds 350 bar or leaks at 280. Material grade selection, machining strategy, and post-process surface quality are tightly coupled decisions that most prototype shops treat independently. KUSLA treats them as one problem.

Energy Sectors We Serve

KUSLA machines components across the energy value chain — from upstream oil and gas to renewable infrastructure. Each sector imposes different material, pressure, and environmental demands on machined parts.

Oil & Gas
Pressure-rated components for upstream extraction, midstream transport, and downstream refining. Materials must withstand H₂S exposure, high pressure, and sustained vibration in downhole and surface equipment.
Valve bodies Hydraulic manifolds Flange adapters Pump housings Flow control spools Pressure fittings
Renewable Energy
Structural and mechanical components for solar tracking systems, wind turbine assemblies, EV charging infrastructure, and battery enclosure systems. Emphasis on corrosion resistance for outdoor installation and aluminum weight optimization.
Solar tracker brackets Wind turbine bearing housings EV charger enclosures Battery system frames Inverter heat sinks
Power Generation & Distribution
Precision components for gas turbine auxiliaries, generator support structures, switchgear housings, and transformer mounting hardware. Tight flatness and parallelism for mating surfaces under thermal expansion.

Material Selection: Corrosion Resistance for Energy Environments

Energy components face aggressive media — saltwater, H₂S, high-temperature steam, caustic cleaning agents. Material selection drives 80% of a part’s service life in these environments. KUSLA machines all of the following alloys, with material certificates and heat lot traceability on every order.

Corrosion ratings represent general atmospheric and aqueous media performance. Specific media compatibility (H₂S, chlorides, acids) requires grade-level evaluation. Contact KUSLA engineering for application-specific material recommendations.

Valve Body & Hydraulic Manifold Machining Capabilities

Valve bodies and hydraulic manifolds are the most demanding energy components KUSLA machines. They combine deep intersecting bores, tight seal surface finishes, and pressure-rated materials — all of which require rigid fixturing, controlled feeds, and in-process verification.

The trickiest energy parts we machine are 316L hydraulic manifold blocks with 6–8 intersecting bores at different angles. The internal bore intersection creates a burr that you can’t reach with a standard tool. We use a combination of cross-hole deburring tools and thermal deburring (TEM) for critical flow paths. Last quarter we delivered a batch of 24 manifold blocks for a solar thermal system — each block had 7 cross-drilled ports, seal faces at Ra 0.6 µm, and NPT threads on all ports. We held port-to-port positional accuracy at ±0.03 mm across the block. The client’s pressure test passed at 420 bar with zero leaks on first assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials can KUSLA machine for energy industry parts? +

KUSLA machines stainless steels (303, 304, 316L, 17-4 PH, duplex 2205), alloy steels (4140, 4340), aluminum alloys (6061, 7075, 5052), titanium (Grade 2, Grade 5), brass, and engineering plastics (PEEK, POM). Material certificates with heat lot traceability are provided on every order.

Can you machine hydraulic manifolds with deep intersecting bores? +

Yes. KUSLA machines manifold blocks with up to 12 intersecting bores, using gun drilling for depths up to 12× diameter. Internal bore intersections are deburred using cross-hole deburring tools or thermal deburring (TEM). Seal faces are finished to Ra 0.4–0.8 µm, and port positional accuracy is held to ±0.03 mm.

What thread standards are supported for valve bodies and fittings? +

NPT, BSP, SAE O-ring Boss (ORB), and metric threads are all supported. Thread gauging and CMM verification are performed on every batch. O-ring grooves are machined per ISO 3601 dimensions.

Do you provide material certificates and inspection reports? +

Every order ships with a dimensional inspection report and material certificate (mill cert with heat lot traceability). For critical applications, CMM reports with GD&T verification and first-article inspection (FAI) documentation are available on request.

What is the typical lead time for energy equipment prototypes? +

Standard lead time is 7–12 business days for valve bodies and manifold blocks, depending on complexity and material availability. Simple brackets and mounting plates ship in 5–7 days. Aluminum parts for renewable energy applications typically ship in 5–8 days. Expedited service is available.
